HOTEL DESCRIPTION
Built in 1713 as one of the first grand residences in Stellenbosch, this iconic hotel at 33 Church Street underwent three years’ painstaking renovation before emerging as the 5-star Boutique Hotel & Spa in 2010.
This hotel was proclaimed a South African National Monument in 1978. The first owner of the property (recorded in 1704) was Albertus Bartholomeus Coopman. The current neo-Georgian architecture of the manor house section dates from 1870 – 1900.
HOW WE RATE IT & WHY WE LIKE IT
We love the combination of history and classic bygone charm. This boutique hotel has unexpected delightful detail and quirky surprises. Situated in the university town of Stellenbosch it’s a stone throws away from some of the best wine farms in South Africa as well as small streets with shops and restaurants.
